The Natural Protected Areas Law (Law N° 26834) establishes the regulatory framework for the management, conservation, and administration of Natural Protected Areas in Peru. It defines these areas as continental and/or marine spaces of the national territory, recognized and declared to conserve biological diversity and cultural, landscape and scientific values, constituting heritage of the Nation. The law establishes a system of protection categories, regulates the sustainable use of natural resources, and promotes the participation of local communities, public and private institutions in their management.
