The Sectoral Law on Biodiversity No. 333-15 develops, regulates, and applies the principles and provisions on the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity contained in the Constitution of the Republic and the Organic Law on Environment and Natural Resources, establishing the necessary legal framework to promote the maintenance and recovery of national biodiversity as part of the Natural Heritage of the Dominican Nation. It guarantees the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, regulates access to genetic resources and their derivatives, and ensures fair and equitable participation in the benefits derived from their use. It establishes a classification system for species by categories of use and conservation, regulates trade, hunting, bioprospecting, and biosafety, among other aspects. It defines administrative offenses and crimes against biodiversity, as well as their respective sanctions, also establishing a regime of objective civil liability for those who cause damage to biodiversity.
