Description
The Technical Guide for Environmental and Social Good Practices on the Use and Management of Pesticides under the REDD+ Framework in the Dominican Republic is an instrument that provides guidelines to ensure that pest control in forestry and agroforestry activities is carried out while minimizing negative environmental and social impacts, prioritizing integrated pest management over the use of chemical products. This guide is aimed at technical staff from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources as well as other entities linked to REDD+, systematizing the necessary procedures for the development and registration of good practices that comply with the Environmental and Social Management Framework of the Emissions Reduction Program. It provides information on the most common pests in forests and agrosystems in the Dominican Republic, the principles of integrated pest management, prevention, monitoring and control techniques, as well as criteria for properly selecting, handling and disposing of pesticides when their use is unavoidable. It also details the good practices that will be monitored by the Executing Entities to verify compliance with environmental and social safeguards, including gender equity elements, in the context of the Safeguards Information System (SIS) and the Complaints, Claims and Conflict Management System (SQRC).
