Description
The Wildlife Conservation and Management Act of Guyana 2016 is a comprehensive legal framework that establishes mechanisms for the protection, conservation, sustainable management, and both internal and external trade of Guyana's wildlife, including fauna and flora. This law creates the Guyana Wildlife Conservation and Management Commission, which acts as the CITES Management Authority in the country, responsible for overseeing and regulating all activities related to wildlife. The law also establishes a Wildlife Scientific Committee that functions as the CITES Scientific Authority, in addition to setting up a system of licenses, permits, and certificates for activities such as captive breeding, artificial propagation, wildlife ranching, and international wildlife trade. Its main objective is to implement the provisions of the CITES Convention, ensuring that Guyana complies with its international obligations while protecting its abundant wildlife resources through mechanisms that guarantee transparency, certainty, natural justice, and fairness.
