Legal framework that establishes the Green Domestic Product (GDP) as a national economic indicator that incorporates the valuation of Brazil's ecological heritage in its calculation. It mandates that the federal agency responsible for calculating the Gross Domestic Product must also disclose, preferably annually, this new indicator that considers ecological heritage in addition to traditionally used criteria and data. It determines that the calculation of the GDP must consider similar national and international initiatives and be compatible with environmental economic accounting systems adopted in other countries to allow for comparability. It establishes that the methodology for the calculation must be widely discussed with society and public institutions, including the National Congress, before an environmental economic accounting system is officially adopted in Brazil.
