Political framework that establishes guidelines to promote sustainable consumption in Brazil, encouraging the adoption of environmentally sustainable consumption practices and production techniques. It defines sustainable consumption as the use of natural resources that provides quality of life for the present generation without compromising the needs of future generations. It establishes nine main objectives that include changes in consumer attitudes, reduction of natural resource consumption, waste management, recycling, corporate responsibility and information on product life cycles. It assigns to the public authorities the responsibility to promote campaigns in mass media and train education professionals to include sustainable consumption in educational programs.
