The Atlantic Forest Law establishes a legal framework for the protection, conservation, regeneration, and sustainable use of the Atlantic Forest Biome, considered a national heritage of Brazil. The law defines different stages of forest regeneration, regulates the cutting and suppression of native vegetation according to its conservation status, establishes special restrictions for urban areas and mining activities, creates economic incentives for conservation, and establishes an Atlantic Forest Biome Restoration Fund. It contemplates a differentiated regime for small rural producers and traditional populations, promoting scientific research and adopting measures that seek to balance development with environmental preservation.
