The Biological Diversity Management Law establishes provisions for the management of biological diversity in its various components, including natural or manipulated genomes, genetic material and its derivatives, species, populations, communities, and ecosystems in Venezuela. The law addresses conservation, sustainable management and use, research, and systematization of data on biological diversity. It includes regulations on biosafety, biotechnology, biocommerce, access to genetic resources, and establishes a regime of administrative and criminal sanctions for infractions related to biodiversity. All actions aimed at managing the components of biological diversity are declared of public utility and social interest.
