Law on Forests and Forest Management establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework for the conservation and sustainable management of Venezuelan forest heritage, declaring it of public utility and social interest. It defines forest management principles such as sustainability, integrality, co-responsibility, precaution, transversality, and endogenous development. It implements an institutional system that articulates responsibilities between different levels of government and promotes citizen participation. It regulates the classification and management of native forests and plantations, establishes management instruments, environmental control mechanisms and a sanctioning regime, as well as economic incentives to promote conservation and sustainable forest development.
