Jaguar 2030: A Conservation Roadmap for the Americas

Multinational roadmap presented on November 19, 2018, during the fourteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity, with the participation of governments from jaguar range countries and international conservation organizations. It establishes a regional strategy to protect jaguars and their ecosystems, strengthen the connectivity of the Jaguar Corridor from Mexico to Argentina, and secure 30 priority conservation landscapes by 2030. The roadmap defines four strategic pathways: coordination among countries to protect and connect habitats; development and implementation of national conservation strategies; expansion of sustainable development models compatible with jaguar conservation; and improvement of the financial sustainability of conservation actions. It promotes transboundary cooperation, biodiversity protection and coexistence between local communities, Indigenous peoples and wildlife. Its primary objective is the conservation of species, habitats and ecosystems rather than increasing agricultural production.
