Description

The National Institute for Forest Conservation and Development, Protected Areas and Wildlife (ICF) developed the "Forest Map and Land Cover in the Republic of Honduras 2018" as an essential tool for planning and decision-making in economic development and forest sector management. The map has 11 categories and 38 subcategories, of which 4 belong to the forest macro category with 12 subcategories, and 7 categories belong to the non-forest macro category with 26 subcategories. The classification is based on the methodology adapted from the international Corine Land Cover system that describes, characterizes and classifies the biophysical cover of the land surface. It was developed through visual interpretation of satellite images from the Sentinel 2 sensor that allows identification of categories based on their spectral signatures.
