National Strategy on Forests and Climate Change (ENBCC)

Peru's National Strategy on Forests and Climate Change, approved by Supreme Decree No. 007-2016-MINAM and published on July 21, 2016. The strategy establishes policy guidelines, objectives and strategic actions to address deforestation and forest degradation and reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with land use, land-use change and forestry. With a vision toward 2030, it promotes the conservation and enhancement of forest carbon stocks and sustainable forest management, in coordination with national climate change policies and Peru's international commitments. It adopts an integrated landscape management approach, promotes interinstitutional coordination and recognizes the participation of Indigenous peoples and local communities. Agricultural activities and land-use conversion are considered among the drivers of deforestation, while the strategy's primary focus remains forest conservation, climate change mitigation and sustainable territorial management.
