National Strategy for Fire Use and Management 2018-2028

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2018
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2028

Description

The National Strategy for Fire Use and Management 2018-2028 is a management instrument to address the problem of forest fires in Honduras, recognizing that 99% of these are of human origin (64% by criminal action, 11% by agricultural activities and 25% by other causes). It establishes strategic guidelines based on the concept of integrated fire management, considering both its use as a productive tool, the ecological need of various ecosystems adapted to fire, as well as its destructive potential when misused. It proposes nine fundamental principles (planning, complementarity, security, coordination, responsibility, participation, solidarity, perseverance and prevention) and specific lines of action oriented to the prevention, control and rehabilitation of affected areas, with special emphasis on pine savannas that represent 37% of the burned area in the country.
