Fecha de inicio: 09/11/2005
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

Decree No. 159-2005 establishes the creation of the protected area "Honduran Emerald Hummingbird Habitat" under the Habitat/Species Management Area category as an integral part of the National System of Protected Areas of Honduras (SINAPH). This protected area aims to conserve the very dry tropical forest in the Aguan Valley, considered the most restricted ecosystem in Central America and habitat for endemic species, particularly the Honduran Emerald Hummingbird (Amazillia luciae), the endemic bird of Honduras with the highest risk of extinction in Central America. The decree establishes the precise geographical boundaries of the protected area, defines its conservation objectives, and determines the responsibilities of local authorities and landowners in the participatory management of the area, prohibiting incompatible activities such as non-scientific hunting, extraction of vulnerable species, and mining.
