The Provision on measuring, marking and registration of timber 2019 is a regulatory instrument approved by the Minister of Spatial Planning, Land and Forest Management of Suriname on January 9, 2020, which establishes the requirements and procedures for measuring, marking, and registering harvested and transported timber. This regulatory framework determines that concessionaires, permit holders, tenants, or owners of logging rights must number stumps and felled trees, label timber with special tags (mother and child labels), register the dimensions of each log, and undergo inspections by forest officials before timber transport, in order to ensure traceability and control of legal forest harvesting.
