The Rio Declaration on Environment and Development is a set of 27 principles adopted during the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development held in Rio de Janeiro from June 3 to 14, 1992. This international agreement establishes fundamental guidelines for achieving global sustainable development, recognizing the integral and interdependent nature of the Earth and seeking to establish a new and equitable global partnership between States, key sectors of societies, and individuals. The Declaration addresses issues such as the right to development, environmental protection, poverty eradication, cooperation between States, citizen participation, and the recognition of the role of specific groups such as women, youth, and indigenous populations.
