Peru: Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — National Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation Commitments

Peru's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) establish the country's climate change adaptation and mitigation commitments under the Paris Agreement. Coordinated by the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM) with the participation of multiple public institutions and sectors, the NDCs guide the design and implementation of measures to reduce the vulnerability of people, ecosystems and economic activities to climate change impacts, while also reducing greenhouse gas emissions. MINAM's institutional information identifies five priority adaptation areas: agriculture, forests, fisheries and aquaculture, health, and water. Mitigation measures are organized across energy, industrial processes, agriculture, land use, land-use change and forestry, and waste. The NDCs incorporate cross-cutting approaches addressing disaster risk management, resilient infrastructure, gender, interculturality, poverty and vulnerable populations. Their implementation requires intersectoral coordination, monitoring of measures and periodic updates to national commitments. Within agrifood systems, the NDCs address adaptation in agricultural and fisheries production, sustainable management of water and forest resources, and the reduction of emissions associated with agriculture and land use.
