Mexico's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), updated in 2020, constitutes the country's commitment to the Paris Agreement to reduce its Greenhouse Gas emissions and adapt to climate change during the 2020-2030 period. The document reaffirms and strengthens the commitments made in 2015, establishing unconditional targets to reduce GHG emissions by 22% and black carbon by 51% by 2030 compared to the business-as-usual scenario, as well as conditional targets of up to 36% for GHG and 70% for black carbon. The NDC includes a robust adaptation component with 5 strategic axes and 27 lines of action, and integrates cross-cutting approaches on human rights, gender, and intergenerational equity, recognizing the differentiated vulnerability to climate change.
