National Strategy for Watershed Management in Honduras

Fecha de inicio: 20/07/2011
Fecha de fin: 29/12/2022

Description

Strategic instrument that defines guidelines to orient policies, actions and strategies for the integrated management of watersheds in Honduras, ensuring the participation of all stakeholders to contribute to the protection and management of the country's water resources. It promotes effective inter-institutional coordination for integrated watershed management, establishing bases to gradually implement the strategy through pilot initiatives in priority micro-watersheds. It strengthens the role of watershed stakeholders through the creation and consolidation of watershed organizations based on the Forest Consultative Councils. It promotes the participation of local governments so they position themselves as governing entities for natural resource management, especially in areas producing water for human consumption. It encourages recovery processes for water supply micro-watersheds with advanced signs of environmental degradation to restore hydrological regimes.
