Ecuador: Executive Decree No. 323 — General Regulations for the Protection and Development of the Family Farming Economy

Ecuador's Executive Decree No. 323 issues the General Regulations implementing the Organic Law for the Protection and Development of the Family Farming Economy. The regulations establish the legal provisions and mechanisms required to implement the law. They apply to individuals, legal entities, communes, communities, peoples, and nationalities engaged in family farming activities. The regulations address the registration of family farming units, rural development, technical assistance, access to agricultural inputs, producer associations, productivity, competitiveness, and commercialization. They also include provisions concerning research, traditional and ancestral knowledge, intellectual property, rural education, and intercultural health. The regulations promote alternative marketing channels and sustainable production practices to strengthen the family farming economy and contribute to food security and food sovereignty. They were published in the Second Supplement to Official Gazette No. 598 on July 11, 2024.
