Organic Law on Incentives for Artisanal Fishing in Ecuador (2023)

Ecuadorian organic law published on May 8, 2023, in Supplement No. 305 of the Official Gazette. It amends legislation governing aquaculture, fisheries, and artisanal activities to strengthen fisheries management and facilitate access to preferential financing. The law introduces georeferenced fisheries information and technical studies to support management parameters and tariff setting; establishes preferential credit mechanisms for artisans and artisanal producers; and requires the Fisheries Advisory Council to be convened to address fisheries management and the conservation of aquatic biological resources. It applies nationwide and contributes to artisanal fisheries development and the sustainability of fisheries resources.
