Description

The National Carbon Tax is a levy on the equivalent carbon content of fossil fuels, considering the greenhouse gas emission factor for each type of fuel. It establishes a specific rate per ton of carbon equivalent (CO2eq) that is adjusted annually according to the CPI plus one percentage point until reaching a determined value. It includes differentiated rates per unit of fuel, exemptions for biofuels, gradual implementation for coal, and a special regime for specific geographic areas such as the Amazon and certain municipalities in Chocó.
