Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement: Cooperative Approaches

Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement establishes a framework for voluntary cooperative approaches involving the use of internationally transferred mitigation outcomes towards nationally determined contributions. It allows Parties to engage in bilateral or multilateral transactions of emission reduction units, conditioned on promoting sustainable development, ensuring environmental integrity and transparency, applying robust accounting to avoid double counting, and ensuring that such activities are consistent with guidance adopted by the Conference of the Parties.
