Law Project 2.148 of 2015: Brazilian Greenhouse Gas Emissions Trading System (SBCE)

Fecha de inicio: 21/12/2023
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The Brazilian Emissions Trading System for Greenhouse Gases establishes a regulated regime for limiting and trading greenhouse gas emissions in Brazil. It implements a "cap and trade" mechanism where a maximum emission limit is established and gradually reduced, forcing regulated agents to decrease their emissions or acquire emission rights. The system includes the creation of Brazilian Emission Quotas (CBE) and Verified Emission Reduction or Removal Certificates (CRVE), establishes safeguards for property rights of traditional communities, and defines mechanisms to avoid double counting of carbon credits.
