Description

The General Treaty on Central American Economic Integration constitutes a multinational agreement signed in 1960 that establishes a common market among Central American countries, committing to perfect a free trade zone within a five-year period and adopt a uniform tariff. It creates entities such as the Central American Economic Council and the Executive Council to direct regional economic integration. The treaty establishes mechanisms to resolve trade disputes and guarantees freedom of transit for goods, while also promoting the establishment of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration to finance balanced regional development.
