The IDB's Environmental and Social Policy Framework sets out the bank's commitment to environmental and social sustainability for Latin America and the Caribbean, defining specific standards with which borrowers must comply. It establishes ten Environmental and Social Performance Standards covering aspects such as risk assessment and management, labor conditions, resource efficiency, community health and safety, resettlement, biodiversity, indigenous peoples, cultural heritage, gender equality and stakeholder participation. It defines roles and responsibilities of both the IDB and borrowers to ensure the sustainability of the financed projects.
