Decree 175/006: Ban on animal protein in ruminant feed in Uruguay

Fecha de inicio: 12/06/2006
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

Decree 175/006 prohibits the use of animal-derived proteins and products containing them in ruminant feed as a preventive measure against Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies (TSE), including Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). Recognizing BSE as an exotic disease in Uruguay, it seeks to maintain the country's sanitary status and comply with international standards. A system of inspection and control is established at livestock facilities to prevent the recycling and amplification of the BSE agent. This framework strictly regulates the composition and destination of animal feed under the supervision of the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture, and Fisheries.
