ACTION PLAN FOR PREVENTION AND CONTROL DEFORESTATION IN LEGAL AMAZON (PPCDAm)

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2023
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

Deforestation causes a lot of damage to both society and biodiversity, as it causes an intense imbalance in ecosystems. Controlling forest exploitation and promoting the sustainable use of forests in a developing country and given the size of Brazil, these are not simple tasks. Even less in the Legal Amazon, which corresponds to around 60% of the national territory, has different ethnic indigenous populations with extensive traditional knowledge and a deep balance in sustainable use of the biome, in addition to constituting an environmental heritage with economic potential that is still little known and explored. In the new management of the federal government, Brazil seeks to regain international leadership in mitigating climate change and controlling deforestation. To this end, on January 1, 2023, the Permanent Interministerial Commission for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation was created by Decree No. 11,367, a collegiate body linked to the Civil House of the Presidency of the Republic responsible for defining and coordinating interministerial actions to reduce deforestation rates in the national territory, in which the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MMA) serves as executive secretary. Through the Decree, the Executive Subcommittee responsible for the Action Plan for the Prevention and Control of Deforestation in the Legal Amazon (PPCDAm) was also created, made up of 13 ministries and coordinated by MMA.
