The National Production Council, as an autonomous entity of the Costa Rican State, is responsible for modernizing and comprehensively transforming the agricultural sector to enhance its efficiency and competitiveness, focusing particularly on small and medium-sized producers. Its main objective is to integrate agricultural production activities into the international market, equitably distributing the benefits derived through training and technology transfer programs. In addition, the Council intervenes in the market to maintain the balance between supply and demand, thus ensuring national food security. It promotes the industrialization and commercialization of agricultural and livestock products, and can operate infrastructures such as silos and processing plants. It also has the power to import and export agricultural products, ensuring sufficient reserves for domestic consumption. In its operation, it collaborates with various credit and agricultural extension entities to promote production and stabilize prices, while implementing programs that range from soil conservation to the quality certification of agricultural products.
