Law for the Recovery and Utilization of Food in the State of Mexico

Fecha de inicio: 26/06/2019
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The main objective of the Law is to prevent food waste and promote its donation to the most vulnerable communities in the state. To this end, it establishes the creation of Food Banks, which collect, preserve and distribute food that, although it does not meet certain commercial standards, is suitable for human consumption. The law encourages collaboration between the government, civil society and commercial establishments to ensure that recovered food reaches people in vulnerable situations, especially in areas with high rates of marginalization. Among the actions it promotes, the law establishes mechanisms for the donation of perishable, canned and packaged products, which would otherwise be discarded. It also stipulates sanctions for those who make lucrative use of these donations and for public officials who interfere with their distribution. The institutions involved, such as the Ministry of Welfare, have the responsibility of coordinating the recovery and distribution of food, ensuring its delivery to the communities with the greatest need.
