Brazil - Intersectoral Strategy for Reducing Food Loss and Waste

Fecha de inicio: 01/04/2018
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The Strategy aims to coordinate actions aimed at preventing and reducing food loss and waste in the country. This effort is aligned with the National Food and Nutrition Security Policy (SAN) and responds to international commitments such as the 2030 Agenda and the CELAC 2025 Plan. It seeks to improve food availability, reduce its impact on the environment and increase access to adequate and healthy food. To this end, the strategy is structured around four axes: research, education and communication, promotion of public policies, and legislation. Key actions include promoting research to identify the causes of food loss, fostering technological innovation to reduce it, developing educational campaigns to raise awareness among the population, and strengthening public policies. It also proposes improving food storage and distribution infrastructure, as well as reviewing and updating the legal framework to facilitate food donations and reduce tax barriers for donor companies.
