Description
The agreement signed between the European Union and regional actors in Latin America and the Caribbean seeks to strengthen cooperation in integrated disaster risk management in a region vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was developed by ECHO, with the support of UNDRR, and included the participation of organizations such as CEPREDENAC, CDEMA, SGCAN, and RMAGIR. Its objective is to promote adaptation to climate change, resilient infrastructure, and early warning systems, strengthening disaster preparedness and resilience. The MoU also supports the Regional Action Plan for the Implementation of the Sendai Framework, promoting international and regional cooperation in risk management, as well as sustainable development in the region. This agreement strengthens collaboration between the EU and the region in their fight against the growing threats of disasters, exacerbated by climate change and socio-economic vulnerabilities, highlighting the urgency of concerted action to build a more resilient and prepared society.
