Inter-secretarial Strategy for Bioenergy in Mexico

Description

The Strategy seeks to promote the sustainable development of the bioenergy industry in Mexico through the integration of various sectors, such as agriculture, energy, environmental, social and economic. This document establishes guidelines for the development of bioenergy from production to use, highlighting the importance of energy security, environmental sustainability and rural development. In addition, it is considered essential to promote the diversification of energy sources, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and taking advantage of the potential of renewable energies such as biomass. The main objectives of the strategy include the creation of a competitive production and consumption chain of biofuels, the promotion of research and development of more efficient and clean technologies, and the generation of opportunities in marginalized rural areas. The strategy underlines the need to implement sustainable practices to avoid the overexploitation of natural resources and prevent negative impacts on food security and biodiversity, while encouraging the participation of various actors in the bioenergy industry.
