Description
The main objective of the Regulation is to establish the sanitary and quality requirements that milk and dairy products intended for human consumption in Peru must meet. This regulation applies to both domestic and imported products and covers all stages of the production chain, from production, processing, packaging, transportation, to marketing. The objective is to guarantee food safety, health security, and prevent misleading practices that may confuse consumers. The regulation also establishes the competent authorities, such as the Ministry of Health, the National Agrarian Health Service (SENASA), and the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and the Protection of Intellectual Property (INDECOPI), who are responsible for the supervision and application of the regulation. The regulation includes detailed technical specifications for different types of milk and dairy products, such as raw milk, pasteurized milk, UHT, evaporated milk, powdered milk, fresh cheese, and yogurt, among others. It also defines the standards for the labeling, packaging, and advertising of these products, ensuring that consumers receive clear and truthful information. In addition, the regulation establishes procedures for health surveillance and control, including sampling plans and sanctions in case of non-compliance.
