Fecha de inicio: 06/11/2013
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

The Decree establishes a milk quality system with the aim of determining the minimum and mandatory requirements for its subsequent processing. This decree is based on the need to adjust milk quality parameters in accordance with international requirements regarding safety and quality, and responds to the advances observed in the average levels of milk quality in the country. The National Milk Institute (INALE) is the body in charge of implementing and keeping the National Milk Quality System up to date, and companies involved in the treatment and transformation of milk must register and comply with the established controls. The decree establishes specific parameters that milk must meet in order to be processed, such as minimum contents of fat, total solids and proteins, as well as maximum limits for the count of somatic cells and bacteria. These controls will be carried out in authorized laboratories and subject to a quality control system managed by the Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries. The sanctions for producers who do not comply with the established parameters are also established, and the possibility of requiring stricter quality standards for companies authorized to export is contemplated.
