Description

The Law establishes the bases for animal health in the national territory. Its main objective is the diagnosis, prevention, control and eradication of diseases and pests that affect animals, as well as the promotion of animal welfare and the regulation of livestock practices and establishments related to the slaughter and processing of animals for human consumption. The law contemplates biosecurity measures, good livestock practices and animal health control, regulating everything from the import to the export of animals and derived products, and includes specific provisions for animal welfare, including feeding, transportation, and humane slaughter. In addition, requirements and procedures are established for the certification of establishments and products, ensuring compliance with official Mexican and international standards. The law also provides for the collaboration of various government agencies for epidemiological surveillance and the control of health risks.
