Guyana Low Carbon Development Strategy 2030

The Strategy has as its central objective to promote sustainable and equitable growth while protecting the environment. This strategy is based on four interrelated objectives: valuing ecosystem services, investing in clean energy and stimulating low-carbon growth, protecting against climate change and biodiversity loss, and aligning with global climate and biodiversity goals. Valuing ecosystem services involves recognizing and leveraging the value of Guyana’s ecosystem services, including biodiversity, water management, and marine resources. Investing in clean energy and stimulating low-carbon growth is another pillar of the strategy. Protecting against climate change and biodiversity loss will be implemented through measures to enhance resilience to climate change, such as mangrove restoration, improved water resource management, and the creation of coastal protection systems. Biodiversity conservation will also be prioritized through the expansion of protected areas and strengthening natural resource management.
