Description

The Ordinance regulates the criteria and procedures to grant and maintain the right to use the Biofuels Social Seal in Brazil. This seal, awarded by the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, identifies industrial units producing biodiesel that promote the social inclusion of family farmers. The ordinance defines family farming organizations as agricultural cooperatives with a Declaration of Suitability from PRONAF or the National Registry of Family Farming (CAF), and the promoting agents as legal entities in charge of marketing family farming production for biodiesel producers with the seal. . In addition, producers must ensure the provision of Technical Assistance and Rural Extension (ATER) to farmers. To maintain the seal, biodiesel producers must meet a minimum percentage of effective expenditures on acquisitions and ATER for family farming, evaluated annually. The ordinance also promotes investment in projects and actions that strengthen family farming and encourages the inclusion of farmers in the planning and execution of ATER activities.
