Description
The Amazon Fund is a mechanism established by the Brazilian government to capture donations for non-reimbursable investments in actions to prevent, monitor, and combat deforestation, as well as to promote conservation and sustainable use of forests in the Amazon biome. It was created by Decree No. 6,527 of August 1, 2008, authorizing the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) to manage it. The fund has a governance structure that includes a Technical Committee and a Steering Committee to ensure transparency and effectiveness of investments. Additionally, it allows for up to 20% of its resources to be applied in other Brazilian biomes and tropical countries for the development of deforestation monitoring and control systems.
