Description

Brazil's National Forest Program (PNF) is an initiative created by presidential decree in April 2000 to promote sustainable use of the country's forests. Its objectives include stimulating sustainable use of native and planted forests, encouraging reforestation, recovering degraded areas, supporting forest populations, combating illegal deforestation and forest fires, and promoting the development of the forest industry. The PNF seeks to integrate efforts from different levels of government and civil society, and establishes a coordinating commission (CONAFLOR) for its implementation.
