Description

The National Policy on Climate Change (PNMC) is a Brazilian legal framework that establishes principles, objectives, guidelines, and instruments to address climate change. It institutes measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen sinks, and promote adaptation to the effects of climate change. The PNMC seeks to reconcile socio-economic development with the protection of the climate system and encourages the creation of a Brazilian Emission Reduction Market. It establishes a voluntary national commitment to reduce emissions between 36.1% and 38.9% by 2020.
