Agreement No. 632/15 Regulation of the biological corridors of Honduras

Fecha de inicio: 15/06/2015
Fecha de fin: N/A

Description

This regulation aims to regulate the creation of Biological Corridors as a strategy to maintain biodiversity, reduce fragmentation and improve connectivity between ecosystems, promoting sustainable productive processes that improve the quality of life of the local populations that use, manage and conserve The Biodiversity. The regulation establishes collaboration between the Ministry of Energy, Natural Resources, Environment and Mines (MiAmbiente) and the National Institute of Forest Conservation and Development, Protected Areas and Wildlife (ICF) to manage the corridors. These authorities are responsible for the application of the regulations and must coordinate with various local entities and actors to implement actions in the corridors. Biological Corridors are defined as geographical areas that ensure connectivity between protected natural areas and other ecosystems. Corridors can be terrestrial, marine, island, coastal and transboundary, classified by their size and characteristics. The objectives of the Biological Corridors include recovering the productive capacities of ecosystems, reducing ecological and social vulnerability, taking advantage of environmental goods and services, contributing to biodiversity and improving the quality of life of local populations. To establish a corridor, the presentation of technical and scientific studies is required, as well as the support of local communities. Establishment requests must be registered and coordinated between MiAmbiente and the ICF. Benefits such as product seals, ecotourism promotion, conservation prizes and payments for environmental services are established for those who participate in conservation within the corridors. The regulation emphasizes the importance of environmental education and training in all activities and projects carried out in the corridors. It seeks to involve diverse actors and promote the conservation of biodiversity through collaborative and sustainable management of natural resources and ecosystems.
