The Climate Change Law of Honduras establishes a comprehensive regulatory framework for mitigation and adaptation to climate change, with the objective of promoting sustainable development and protecting natural resources. The law advocates the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions through the implementation of policies and programs focused on the use of renewable energy, energy efficiency and reforestation. Likewise, it seeks to strengthen institutional and community capacities to face the adverse impacts of climate change, promoting the resilience of ecosystems and vulnerable communities. In addition, it includes the mandate for related institutions to carry out institutional strategic plans in line with the themes defined in the law. In the case of the Forest Conservation Institute, they must develop local, regional and national plans for the prevention and combat of forest fires, for the efficient management of the units that make up the Honduran System of Protected Areas (SINAPH), the ecological corridors and forest ecosystems. .
