National Action Plan to Fight Desertification and Drought (PAN-LCD) 2014-2022 Honduras

Fecha de inicio: 01/01/2014
Fecha de fin: 31/12/2022

Description

The Plan's main objective is to forge a global alliance to reverse and prevent desertification, land degradation and mitigate the effects of drought in affected areas. The PAN-LCD 2014-2022 is structured around five strategic axes. The first is sustainable agri-food production, whose objective is to improve the living conditions of the affected populations through the implementation of sustainable agrosilvopastoral production systems, increasing productivity and food security. The second axis focuses on the ordering, conservation and restoration of ecosystems, improving the conditions of the affected ecosystems through conservation and restoration actions, using the basin as a geographical unit of intervention and prioritizing water resources. The third strategic axis is promotion, awareness, education and capacity building for sustainable development, raising levels of awareness and education on the sustainable use of natural resources, and promoting capacities to prevent and reverse land degradation. The fourth axis seeks to consolidate the governance of natural resources by creating favorable environments for the fight against desertification and land degradation. Finally, the fifth axis focuses on drought risk management, significantly reducing the risk through better knowledge, monitoring, prediction and mitigation of its effects in the most affected areas. In relation to forests, the plan addresses the reduction or loss of forests as a form of desertification, caused by their irrational use and inadequate agricultural practices. Specific actions are highlighted for the conservation and restoration of forest ecosystems, as well as the recovery and adequate management of resources such as soil, water, and terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems affected by productive activities.
