Description
The main objective of the Convention is to conserve the terrestrial and coastal-marine biodiversity of the Central American region for the benefit of present and future generations. The signatory States undertake to conserve and sustainably use their biological resources, ensuring that their activities do not cause damage to biological diversity within and outside their jurisdictions. Additionally, the agreement emphasizes international and regional cooperation for the conservation of natural resources, recognizing the value of biodiversity for economic and social development. The actions stipulated in the agreement include the creation and strengthening of protected areas, both terrestrial and marine, as essential instruments for the conservation of ecosystems. Scientific research, the efficient management of these areas, and the participation of the international community in technical and financial terms are also promoted. Likewise, the agreement urges countries to develop national laws for the conservation of biodiversity, promote ecotourism, and regulate the collection and commercialization of biological resources. In addition, the importance of education and public awareness about the need to conserve and sustainably use biological resources is highlighted, ensuring citizen participation in these initiatives.
