Specific actions include establishing high levels of environmental protection and continually improving environmental laws and policies in accordance with each country's levels of development and available resources. The effective application of environmental laws is also ensured through government actions, providing legal procedures to sanction or remedy violations. The agreement prohibits relaxing environmental laws to encourage trade or investment and requires maintaining adequate procedures to evaluate the environmental impacts of proposed projects, ensuring public participation and disclosure of information. Furthermore, it ensures that relevant laws, regulations and administrative resolutions are accessible to the public and promotes public participation in their development. The agreement also encourages voluntary corporate social responsibility practices to align economic and environmental objectives, and promotes voluntary and incentive-based measures to improve environmental performance.
