Description

The Food and Nutrition Security Law of Peru establishes a legal framework to develop public policies that guarantee the fundamental right to food. Its objective is to ensure that all people have physical, economic and sociocultural access to sufficient, safe and nutritious food at all times. The main actions include the promotion of sustainable food production, the fight against pests, the conservation of natural resources, and the improvement of nutrition and public health. The law also encourages scientific and technological research in agriculture and food, the active participation of producers and consumers, and the protection of the rights of vulnerable populations. In addition, multisectoral coordination is maintained to implement these policies and the continuity of previous national strategies related to food security is ensured.
