Description

The Public Policy on Agricultural Pesticides 2024-2034 of Costa Rica is designed to address the comprehensive management of pesticides in the agricultural sector, strengthening food security, good agricultural practices, sustainable productivity, and the protection of public health, the environment and biodiversity. The policy is based on three strategic axes: the analysis of the regulatory framework, safety and sustainability in the management of pesticides, and digital transformation and traceability. Each axis includes objectives, specific actions, indicators and goals for its implementation. In addition, the policy establishes inter-institutional coordination between the ministries of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG), Environment and Energy (MINAE), and Health (MS) to ensure effectiveness and coherence in the application of regulations and promote the participation of various actors. , including producers, consumers and communities affected by pesticide use. The inclusion of biopesticides is mentioned as an important alternative to reduce the chemical load and contribute to food security, public health and environmental protection.
