Description

Law No. 2061 establishes the creation of the National Agricultural Health and Food Safety Service (SENASAG) as the operational structure of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Development. This institution is responsible for administering the agricultural health and food safety regime in Bolivia. SENASAG has several powers, including the health protection of agricultural and forestry heritage, the certification of agricultural health and food safety of products intended for national consumption, export and import, the accreditation of people and entities for the provision of services in these fields, and the control and eradication of pests and diseases in animals and plants. It is also responsible for controlling food safety during production and processing, regulating inputs used in agricultural and agroindustrial production, and declaring public emergencies in matters of agricultural health and food safety. In addition, SENASAG has the capacity to establish financing mechanisms and agreements with public and private entities, both national and international.
