Description

Law 1659 establishes the National Animal Identification, Information and Traceability System in Colombia. This system integrates institutions, standards, processes and data to maintain the traceability of species of economic interest in primary production. The National Cattle Identification and Information System is included and is gradually implemented for other livestock species. Its principles are universality, mandatory nature and gradualness, guaranteeing traceability from production to the final consumer. The objectives include creating national databases, supporting animal health and food safety, facilitating health inspection, improving information for internal and external markets, and collaborating with authorities in crime control.
